Enlightenment from development models and cases of biomedical industry in major cities in Yangtze River Delta for Nanjing

Abstract: Under the background of accelerating restructuring of global bioeconomy,biomedical industry has become a key index to measure regional innovation ability. This paper systematically studies the development models of biomedical industry in Suzhou,Hangzhou,Wuxi and Shanghai in Yangtze River Delta,and extracts four core elements:“building a specialized service network,” “digital ecosystem integration and innovation,”“embedding in the global value chain,” and “synergy between innovation ecosystem and institutional framework”. Through the analysis of typical cases such as Suzhou Biological Nanopark,Hangzhou Medical Port Town,Wuxi WuXi AppTec Enterprise Cluster and Shanghai Zhangjiang Science City,the key mechanisms such as industrial agglomeration,full-chain ecological construction,youth talent-driven and CRO model innovation are revealed. It is recommended that Nanjing focus on a triple development model of “platform + ecosystem + talent”. By reconstructing the innovation network,breaking through institutional barriers,and optimizing elements,it can solve the dilemma of “resource abundance-output imbalance”,build a globally competitive biomedical innovation hub,and promote high-quality development of the biomedical industry.
