Abstract: Taking the geological science and technology journal Geography and Geo-information Science as an example, the authors of rejected articles are divided into different types such as undergraduate students, master’s students, doctoral students, and young scholars. The reasons for rejection and writing problems of different types of authors are analyzed. The research found that:from the perspective of author types, undergraduates among the rejected manuscripts account for the lowest proportion (1.17%),master’s students account for the highest proportion (35.82%),and doctoral students, young scholars, and others are in the middle. From the perspective of the rejection rates of students and teachers, they are 62.08% and 37.92% respectively. The rejection rate of students writing papers is significantly higher than that of teachers. From the perspective of the rejection stage, the rejection rate in the initial review stage is highest, reaching 91.48%,followed by the expert external review stage and the editor in chief final review stage. The common reasons for the rejection of papers among students and teachers include pseudo innovation, incomplete paper structure, weak research timeliness, improper selection of evaluation indicators, and insufficient research depth. From the perspective of individual reasons, students lack research on related topics and have disorganized writing formats, while teachers produce overly complicated papers and fail to highlight key points.
